Privacy
Clear about your data.
Student Signal is free to browse and does not require an account. Here is how its current features handle information.
In your browser
Saved listing IDs and optional matching preferences are stored in your browser’s local storage. They stay on that browser unless you clear its site data. Search and filters run in the browser; Student Signal does not require your name or an account to use the board.
Site use and analytics
Vercel provides basic web analytics. We also use PostHog to understand page visits and actions such as opening, saving, sharing, or applying to an opportunity, using filters, completing preferences, and form submission status. Search events report the number of results, not your search words. Filter events report the control used, not your selected age or matching preferences.
PostHog session replay reconstructs activity on Student Signal, including clicks and scrolling. Form inputs are masked, and the newsletter, listing-submission, and matching forms are excluded. Console logs and network request bodies and headers are not recorded. We do not identify visitors by name or email or create person profiles.
PostHog also helps us find browser errors. Error reports keep the error type and code locations, but discard error messages, code context, and local variables. Query strings are removed from source URLs. Console errors are not collected.
PostHog uses a random identifier in browser session storage, which normally lasts until the tab is closed. We configure it to discard IP addresses and remove query strings from recorded URLs. Replay retention is set to 30 days. This optional analytics setup respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. You can also turn it off for this browser below; basic Vercel analytics continues.
The site does not set advertising cookies. Hosting and linked services may process technical request information. See PostHog’s privacy policy.
Newsletter and submissions
If you join Student Signal Weekly, your email address is sent to MailerLite to manage the subscription. The signup checks whether the email domain can receive mail through Google’s DNS service. If you submit a listing or correction, the opportunity name, official URL, submission type, and details you provide are sent to a GitHub issue for manual review; a submission does not publish a listing automatically.
The forms briefly use connection information to limit repeated requests. Please do not include personal information in a listing submission. Applications happen on the linked organization’s site, which has its own practices.
